Healthy Chicken Biryani Fakeaway Recipe

When I started my journey into healthy lean cooking, I was worried that I was going to miss all kinds of food including my favourite takeaways, so I came up with this healthy chicken biryani fakeaway recipe.

I’ve been able to keep away from most temptations by making my own fakeaway versions of dishes that I love to eat out.  It works for me!

Ingredients for 2 servings

275g chicken breast, chopped into chunks
95g babycorn
46g onions, chopped
6g coconut oil
149g green beans
75g dried brown basmati rice
1 tsp mild curry powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 chilli, sliced, seeds or no seeds up to you!
10g fresh coriander, chopped
20ml water
1/2 lemon, juice only
25ml sweet chilli sauce

(Example ingredient amounts given, adjust accordingly to your requirements)


  • Put a pan of boiling water on the heat and cook the green beans and babycorn for 2-3 minutes, this will save you time later.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove these from the water and set aside.
  • Using the same water (top it up if necessary) cook the basmati rice according to the manufacturers instructions.
  • When ready add a little cold water to stop the rice over cooking, drain and set aside.
  • Take a frying pan and put it on a medium heat.
  • Add the coconut oil and onion.
  • Cook the onions for a few minutes to soften them before adding the chicken.
  • Brown the chicken for a few minutes until its almost cooked.
  • Add the chopped chilli and spices and thoroughly coat the chicken.
  • Add the water and pop a lid on the pan to finish cooking the chicken.
  • This should only take a few minutes.
  • When you’re happy the chicken is cooked (it will be firm to the touch) add the babycorn, green beans and rice to the pan and throughly mix everything together to get coated in the spices.
  • After a minute or two plate up your biryani, give it a squeeze of lemon to season it and add the chopped coriander.
  • Serve the sweet chilli sauce on the side and get ready to eat!


  • The lemon juice will season and lift the flavours of the biryani.
  • For those on 2018 BC plans, sweet chilli sauce is a swap for other side sauces provided you choose one with equivalent macros.
  • For those on 2018 BC plans, baby corn has been approved for used in place of carrots.
  • For anyone following older BC plans, baby corn has been approved for use in place of courgettes.
